4. Becoming Aware That I'm A Role Model in the Community: Community Interaction

This past year, I've most frequently attended Assembly Mennonite Church, when I wasn't participating in Parables programs at other churches. Both of these experiences (Assembly and Parables) have been meaningful experiences. At Assembly, I've had an opportunity to reconnect with may people who used to be a part of my home congregation, Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster. Assembly is very similar to my home church--in this sense, it feels like coming home to go there. I've enjoyed my interactions with the members there, who are all very welcoming and interested in getting to know me. I've also enjoyed the creative, community-oriented services.

Through Parables, I've probably been to more local churches than most Goshen College students. This was an interesting way to get to know Greater Goshen and experience what different Mennonite churches in the area are like. I missed the opportunity to attend regularly at one church, but enjoyed meeting lots of new people and again making connections through my home church and extended family. This was overwhelming at times: I'd come back from a Parables program and email my parents to make sure I didn't forget anyone who wanted me to give their best to them. The Mennonite Game is a somewhat ridiculous phenomenon, and I got my fair share this past year.
